I love my Luxman!
2008

One day whilst looking around the car boot sale, I saw a pile of amplifiers, and at the top was a rather sorry nicotine stained Luxman L 85v, in all its 70's glory. Look at all those switches! Now that I am a family I found it easier to justify spending £10 on an amp that had labeled knobs and switches, and a lid, just on the off chance that it sounded OK for use in the family (read toddler entertaining) stereo.

Having grown up in the 70's and been well indoctrinated in the evils of knobs and transistors and the like, this amp really blows all that stuff out of the water. This is a very satisfying amplifer. I don't think it has the last word of ultimate resolution, but I feel no need to add active cables to it, or tweak it at all, and sometimes in life that is want you need, something that just works!

It just sounds good, involving, clean, rich, deep, I bought a basic Luxman tuner as well, to keep it company, and that is wonderful too, I now have a good aerial, which may help but the tuner is smooth sounding (i.e. not harsh like most I have heard) with a good quiet back ground, and a very nice clean stereo sound. So I just like to have it playing most of the time...
